The team participating in Shell Eco-marathon in 2010

Laboratory of high-speed automobiles (LSA) has been operating as part of scientific and research activity at the Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University (known as KhADI) for over 50 years. The student design and construction board (SDCB) and LSA are contemporaries. SDCB is known worldwide, as it is a unique institution for preparing students in the field of speed cars construction and operation to be used in motorsport. Under “KhADI” brand 42 speed records have been set. 16 out of these 42 have broken the world speed records. For over 10 years those sportsmen, who usually take part in close-circuit races, have been placed at All-Ukrainian championship.
The official office of Shell in Ukraine invited staff of SDCB to take part in the international competition “Shell Eco-marathon”. With a purpose to familiarize Ukrainian engineers with the competition a member of SDCB was invited to the European lap of “Shell Eco-marathon”, which was held at the Nogaro race track (France). Right after it the team got engaged in the development of a car-participant.
“Shell Eco-marathon” challenges high school and college student teams from all over the world to design, build and test energy efficient vehicles. With annual events, which take place in both Americas, Europe and Asia, the winners are those teams whose vehicles prove to be the most fuel- and energy-conserving.
